John Slinger MP for Rugby, Bulkington, and the Villages
As your MP, I’m working hard for everyone in the constituency, whether you voted for me or not. This website is designed for updating you on my work, both locally and nationally.
I am Rugby’s voice in Parliament, championing the issues that matter to you. A large part of my work for you is in Parliament, and for part of each week I also engage with as many residents, organisations and businesses as I can. Scroll down to learn more.
Priorities for the Year Ahead:
As your MP, I work with the community and all relevant local, regional, and national bodies for:
- Regeneration of Rugby town centre
- Improvements to healthcare locally, including a doctor-led urgent care system from the Hospital of St Cross and better access to GPs and NHS dentists
- Enhancing local infrastructure to meet the growing needs of our towns and villages, such as improving bus services
- More provision of genuinely affordable and social homes
- Improve educational outcomes in Rugby, including sufficient spaces for our children
- Advocating for economic policies that boost our local economy and fund good quality public services
What Does an MP Do?
Representing Rugby, Bulkington, and the Villages, my commitment is to advocate for and support you, locally and in Westminster
When Parliament is sitting, I am required to be in London for 3-4 days per week. I am in the constituency for the rest of each week, working for you.
MPs do not run, and cannot direct local councils, or public services, however, we can influence all of these in your best interests, and raise concerns directly with ministers and others, if necessary.
Here’s a quick look at what I do:
- Speaking Up for You: I represent our community in the House of Commons, making sure your concerns are heard in debates and decisions.
- Shaping Laws: I vote on new laws and policies, advocating for what benefits our area most.
- Listening and Talking To You: I knock on doors most weeks to find out what matters to residents. I also hold advice surgeries across the constituency where you can raise any concerns where you are seeking my assistance, or where you can talk to me about political issue.
- Addressing Local Issues: From housing and healthcare to transport, I raise these concerns with ministers nationally and any local organisation or council.
- Helping Constituents with Casework: My team and I are here to help resolve individual concerns or problems and if we can’t, to advise you on other options.
- Engaging With the Community: I visit local schools, charities, businesses, public service organisations and others to understand your challenges and work with you to drive positive change – if your group or organisation (of any size or type), would like me to visit, please get in touch.
Have a question or an issue? Book a surgery appointment (held at venues all across the constituency) or reach out through the contact details below. I’m here to make sure your voice is heard in Westminster.

About John Slinger

Rugby has been my home since 2006.
I am committed to serving the community, whether as a school governor, trustee for Warwickshire Young Carers or more recently as a borough councillor.
My career has taken me through various roles. I started working at McDonald’s during my teenage years. In my 20s, I worked as a hospital porter while also pursuing a passion for music by playing in rock bands. After that, I worked for MPs in Parliament. For the past 18 years, until I decided to run for Parliament, I worked as a consultant at strategic communications companies, both nationally and internationally.
I’m honoured to represent our community and bring my diverse experiences to this role. Whether it’s campaigning for local improvements, championing fair policies in Parliament, or engaging with national and international issues, my focus is delivering for you, standing up for Rugby and working with the government in the national interest.
Fun Facts:
- A classically trained violinist and singer/songwriter who once supported the bands Muse and Toploader and had a song on Radio 1!
- Avid runner exploring Rugby’s scenic countryside (I am Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Running and am running the London Marathon to raise money for a local mental health charity.)
- Passionate advocate for the creative arts and community engagement, who used to run events called ‘Top of the Policies’.
